CORRESPONDENCE.

THS IE RQTJL MEETING.

(To the tiditQf 4 SiryHKindly allow me space In your paper, to throw more light upon the Hon. Mr Mackenzie's meeting held a]b Te Roti. "I shall"be as brief as possible and wish to impress upon your readers that my^ object in so doing is xiot for a party purpose^ but for fair criticism towards all concerned. I think it is the duty of the Press to uphold justice, and b« free from party.1 First of all, I am glad to see that your own correspond dent has rectified the error made in his report in iegards Mr Cleaver's motion. He has, however, made another error in his report, and went on to say that Mr Mackenzie admitted the Opposition had brought forward some good proposals, which the Government had put through as Government Bills. Now, this is quite incorrect: Mr Mackenzie distinctly said - that if. the '• proposals brougnt forward by the Opposition were by the Government considered ' to " be good, then they would support them in becoming law. However, Ido not altogether blame your correspondent for the errors which appeared in his report; probably the disturbance organised by a few individuals had a great deal to do with the. misrepresentation of the meeting; undoubtedly it was disgraceful that such an uncalled-for abuse should v? vl*ta^ en Piace Gn sucll an occasion. Mr Mackenzie's speech was a great credit to any man, which must be admitted by all well-thinking people who may have been present. It was dean, tactful, free from any personalities and abuse, which! am'sorry to say is more than can be said about a large number ot our present-day politicians. I may also draw your attention to the fact that (the irresponsible youths as your v-in-formant terms them) being the cause of the msturoance were considerably over the age of twenty-one. "Who would not be a youth." Stick to the. truth, and shame the devil. In conclusion, the incident has had the reverse effect of its intentions.

APPETITUS RATIONI PUREAT, Te Roti, Nov. 20. .
