DUNEDIN WINTER SHOW.

A GREAT SUCCESS.

BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION:.

DUNEDIN, Aug. 1. The Otago A. and P. Society's annual winter show was opened to-day under the most favorable circumstances. The weather left nothing to be desired, anc: a large number of visitors came in fron^ the country. The show was held later than usual, the delay being due to a fire in the Agricultural Hall buildings in December, but, notwithstanding this, the entries totalled 1134, as against 1008 in 1910. The new buildingslare larger and enable the exhibits to be displayed to better advantage, and also increase the comfort of patrons. The show was officially opened by the Governor (Lord Islington), who urged the farmers of New Zealand to go on with the work of scientific research. They must extend, expand, and organise it every year. They will be more and more confronted with competition in our staple products in countries which sold those products in the same markets as New Zealand.

In both butter and cheese the standard was quite .up to the average. In view of the fact that the cheese had been stored for two months longer than usual, the judges considered the quality highly satisfactory, the exhibition being one of the best ever seen at a local show. GRADING POINTS. The grading points for the year are as follows :^ BUTTER.
