RECIPROCITY.

PROSPECTS IN CANADA.

il CABLE--PEESS ASSOCIATION-COPYEIGHT.

(Received August 2, 9 a.m.)

OTTAWA, August 1.

Sir W Tilfrid Laurier, in an election address, recited the history of the reciprocity movement, declaring that the present Conservative party seeks to reverse the policy of its great leader, Sir John Mac Donald .

Sir Wilfrid Laurier denies that reciprocity is likely to lead to the annexation of Canada by the United States, and adds that British preference will be maintained.

The Conservatives express confidence in sweeping British Columbia, Manitoba, and Ontario.

It is expected that Sir Wilfrid Laurier will hold Quebec, but the unpopularity of the naval policy will probably cost him the home seats.
