Mr R. A. MeCullough, mathematical master at Otago Boys' High School, is dead.

Last year 2904 acres of wheat in jVlariborough yielded 28 bushels to the | acre, or a total of 81,312 bushels. There were 2939 acres laid down in oats, and these yielded 36 bushels per acre^ or 105,804 bushels. The barley grown exceeded any other crop as far as acreage went, but the average yield per acre from 11,768 acres was only 25 bushels. The total barley produced was 294,200 bushels, and 508 acres of potatoes yielded 2540 tons, or an average of five tons per acre. The Chamber of Deputies at Rome has compelled the Cabinet to order a special investigation with the object of ascertaining why the new Palace of Justice in Rome cost £700,000 more than the estimate.
