At the Hawera bowling green on Saturday Barnett, G. Syme, Keen and Strack (s) challenged the holders of the gold buttons, Bates, Crabb, J. Syme and Cowell (s). It was an interesting .match, and resulted in a win for the challengers by 29 to 20. A reminder is given to members and I intending members of the Hawera Methodist Gymnasium that the club recommences to-night at 7.30 o'clock at Higb. School. A meeting of the promoters of tho Town and Country Club, we learn, was lield at Mrs McLean's house on Saturday afternoon, M. - s Williamson in the chair. It was decided to make the annual subscription for country members two guineas and for town members one guinea, in consideration of the fact that a ladies' club is likely to be of greater service to country members. A goodly number of ladies have already .signified to the acting secretary their intention of joining, and many more will no doubt do so tacfore Thursday next, the day by which those invited to join were requested to send in their replies. It is very encouraging that several voluntary subscriptions have already reached the secretary from ladies who cannot bo members, but who wish to show their sympathy with tho movement. The question of premises was referred to a committee to report upon at the next meeting. The / members hope to make their club not only a social institution, but one which will advance the interests of tho town. Mr W.
