Mrs C. Benton, of Manutahi, formerly assistant at Okaiawa, has been recommended .by the Education Board to the Makaka School Committee for appointment as mistress.

Mr and Mrs F. McGuire, of Okaiawa, this morning left Hawera for a visit to tho Waikato district.

The death occurred in Hawera on Saturday of Mrs Michael Carroll, at the age of 72 years, 'after a short illness. Deceased, who was the mother of Mrs M. J. O'Donnell, had, with her husband, been residing with her daughter for the past efght years. Prior to coming to Hawera she had lived at Blenheim, where her husband successfully carried on the business of a contractor. Besides Mrs O'Dqnnell, deceased leaves two other married daughters ;n; n the persons of Mrs Muggeridge (Wellington) and Mrs F. Orbell (New Plymouth), also two married sons — Mr W. Carroll (Wanganui) and Mr M. Carroll (Hawera).
