ROWAN.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr and Mrs Saxby had a narrow escape from serious hurt last week while out driving. "When nearing Kaponga the axle of the gig broke close to the box of the wheel, with the result that the gig went down and Mr and Mrs Saxby were precipitated on to the road. Luckily no injuries were received, alI though they were driving a young , horse, which seemed to take things pretty cool. The young folks of Rowan had rather a pleasant turn out on Friday night, when a good number mustered together tto give Mr and Mrs Norgate a welcome home after spending a fortnight's honeymoon in the Wairarapa district. (The guests drank the health of the young: couple and wished them all kinds of luck in their new life and home. The Sports Club is credited with another successful year. Although the prize money and other expenses were considerably increased the club still is credited with a small balance. Total expenditure £32 0s 9d. Amount received £33 2s 3d, last year's surplus £20 3s lOd; total, in hand £20 5s 4d. This is considered exceptionally good, and next year we hope to be able to give the competitors still more encouragement.
