SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (From Our Own Ctor respondent.} The monthly meeting was held last Monday evening, there being present: Messrs Green (chairman), Handley, Meredith, Anonsen, and Shrimpton (secretary). The headmaster reported that the roll number was 120, eight having been admitted and four > having left during the month. The average attendance was 97, the low average being accounted for by the small attendance in the infant classes, a result of bad weather and a certain amount of sickness. Arbor Day was celebrated by the boys planting shrubs provided by the committee and the girls by removing old pictures from the walls and replacing them by new ones. He had found the work in Standards 111., IV., V., and VI. in a far from satisfactory state. Certain branches of some /subjects had never been started, others had been started early in the year and no.t since been proceeded with; consequently he could not ask the committee to look forward to a very favorable report from the Inspector, who will visit the school on the ]Bth inst. Secretary reported he had taken out j accideu^ insurance policy. Resolved that j the South British Insurance Co. be notified that Mr Ganning hjad met with ! an accident whilst in the employ of the j committee. (Handley— Meredith.) The Chairman handed in 19s which i had been donated towards purchasing trees and shrubs. Arrangements are to be made to have remainder of hedge trimmings cleaned up and the footpaths attended to. On the motion of Messrs Anensen and Meredith it was resolved fchat a committee consisting of the Chairman, Messrs Shrimpton, S. Henderson, 4md \ the mover make enquiries re ' playground and report to next meeting. * . ! It was resolved that thr Education 'Board be written to drawing their attention to the state of the school house and asking it to have the same painted and the windows seen to. It was decided to forward to the Board accounts for fencing and to apply for a subsidy. It was resolved that the Secretary make enquiries re procuring a flag for the school.
