GOLF.

The season was opened in Hawera on Saturday at tho new links,' South road-. There was a good attendance, of members, and with the course in splendid order, some very interesting golf resulted. The afternoon was devoted to mixed foursomes ovar 14 holes, eight couples competing. Tho following were the best carde handed in :•— liias Coutts and ,D. Banks, 79 (scr), 79 ; Miss Wishaw and Ryan, 91 (12) 79; lire McLean Mac-: leod, 96 (16), 80; Mrs Booth and Sellar, 90 (8), 82; Miss Caplen and Jones, 93 (7), 86. The result Being a tie, the two firstnamed couples will pky off at a future date. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. A ladies' stroke competition (14 hoi<33) will bo played on Tuesday next.
