MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The members of the technical classes at Manaia are still increasing in numbers, and the following are t v e totals at the difteranib subjects: Book-keeping 12, dressmaking 3b, niilliaery 11, carving 17, English 23, art (inoluding brirohwork) 23, being a total of 121 etiKLents, the number in any district except Wanganui ana Folding. A canvass for additional funds to acLd another room, to the proposed science room, the funds for which are already available, raised mo less than £65 in three days; and as the donations are mostly in sums of one guinea, and ■under the desire' to help is evidently wutesproadt The canvasser went down one side of Sutherland' road and up on the opposite side, and received at least a guinea from each house. Mr Law will be pleased to - receive any subscriptions which may be forthcoming. - The usual ' iortiiightly meeting of the Loyal Manaia Lodge of Oddlellow* was held <xa> Tuesday evening, and in spite of the very bad weather there was a good attendance present. Bro. W. Snowdon, N.U., was in- the chair, and' one new member was proposed. The lodge is in a very' flourishing condition, and had the largest increase of membership ot any in Tarainaki last year. A meeting^ of tho Waimato Plains Library Committee was held at the Library on Wednesday evening, , there being a goxl attendance ox members. A parcel of books for selection had boon received, and 'the committee have chosen fully 50 -and placed them on' tho ahelvca.' It was decided to procure an oil heater for use during the winter time. Mr Godfrey has again, suffered a serious loss through dogs- ■worrying his sheep, ns on Tuesday evening they got among them and killed' three \and worried five more so badly that, they are not expected to recover. "It is only 'about" f wo' weeks ago since he lost 12 through the. same cause.
