METHODIST CHURCH

QUARTERLY MEETING .

The officials of the church met oil Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance of country members. The Revi'S. J. Gibson, who presided, gave a welcome to the newly-elected members who- took their seats for the first time.

Membership, 173. The senior steward stated. that the new minister, the Rev. F. W. Boys, would arrive on April 24 and take the services .on Sunday, April 26. Resolved, That reception socials be held at Hawera, Normanby and Okaiawa. Messrs E. Dixon and L. S. Barraclough presented the balance-sheet, which showed that the circuit debt had been reduced considerably during the quarter. Special collections were authorised for church anniversaries at Hawera and Manaia, and foreign missions at all places. Resolved, That the circuit steward write to the Foreign Mission Secretary and try to secure the services of Rev. Mr and Mrs Bromiton as foreign mission deputation to Hawera. Resolved, That a letter of thanks be sent to the following, who have given their services as organists: Mrs Winkg (Ararata), Miss Scott (Okaiawa), Miss Muir (Matapu). Several members expressed regret that this meeting would be the last quarterly meeting that Mr Gibson would preside over, and on the motion of the circuit steward a suitable record was made on the minutes of Mr Gibr son's faithful services as superintending minister of the Hawera Circuit.

Resolved, That the members and adherents be thanked for their liberal response to appeal made for gift Sunday. Local preachers' meeting to be held at Matapu on May 14; farewell social to the Rev. Mr Gibson, Mrs Gibson and family to be held on Tuesday, April 14, the ministers of the town, also Revs. Abbey, Hammond and Haddon to be asked to attend.

Next quarterly meeting is to be held at Okaiawa or Matapu.
