MANAWATU RACES— FIRST DAY. TPBESS ASSOCIATION.! PALMERSTON N., April 7. The Manawatu Jockey Club's autumn meeting was held, to-day in, cold and rainy weather: There were good fields and some fine racing. Results :r— Linton Hack Hurdles- s—Snowman5 — Snowman 1, Commander 2,' Reservoir 3. Scratched: Claremont, Splendid Idea. After traversing the first mile Aorangi established a strong lead, but he struck the last hurdle heavily and lost his rider. Showman, coming strong, ran home an easy winner. Time, 3.19 1-5. r . Karere Hack Welder — Ikon 1, Lethean 2, The Dane 3. Scfa%hed: Waikaraka, Truganini, Crucinella. Won comfortably. Time, 1,30. - Manawatu Stakes, 500 soys., six furlongs—Aborigine 1, Elysium 2, Husbandman 3. Scratched: Golden Slipper. Vasa was first off the mark, but was soon collared by Aborigine, who was out by himself at four furlongs, and galloping strongly won by six lengths. Time, 1.14 2-5. Telegraph Stakes-rGold Thread 1, Tarina 2, Contender 3. Also started: Ballarat, Gauze, De Witte, Chicane. Gold Thread led all the way, and won easily by 2£ lengths. Time, 1.14 1-5. Hokowhitu Hurdles.— Gold Dust 1, Claremont 2, Killarney "3. Also ran: Prospector, Pantaloon and Oryx. Pantaloon broke his leg. Longburn Handicap — Waipaku 1, Tangimoana 2, King Billy 3. . Also ran: The Lark, Chatterer, Clanchattan, Flamen, Uenuku, and Probability. Champion Hack Plate — Woodhey 1, Truganini 2, Ikon 3. Also started: Yosami, Waikaraka, Carissima, Wharekura, Mon Ami and Lamsdorff. Taikorea Welter — Bourrasque 1, Moscow 2, San Fernando 3. Also ran : Kurawaka, Toa Tuhi, Prism and Hatley. WELLINGTON, April 8. The hurdle horses Ataahua and Maui have been sold by Mr Prosser to D. J. Price. The former will not fulfil its Auckland engagements, and both horses will be shipped to Australia shortly.
