The Department of Industries and Comnerce has received the following cable :rom the High Commissioner, dated Lonlon, April 4: — The mutton (market is very firm, with 1 better demand, but there is a scarcity >f prime quality miutton. Prices are unhanged. Rdver Plate mutton is quoted it 3£d. The lamb market is very firm, with a >etter tone. Stocks <m hand are light, uid the prospects for the sale of New ! Zealand lambs this season is good. Canterbury lamb is quoted at s|d, other ;han Canterbury s§d. There is a better demand foi beei, lind-quarfcems being quoted at 3§d, forejuartera 2Jd The butter market is firm, with an improved demand, and the supplies will i>e moderate. Following are the current quotations: Choicest New Zealand Ills, Danish Ills, Australian 107s, Siberian 107s, Argentine 108s. The cheese market is quiet but steady. Prices remain unchanged. The hemp market is steady, with an Improved demand, but is dependent on the Manila reports. Following are the Kurmnt quotations : Good fair grade on spot £25 10s, fair grade on spot £23 10s, Eair onrnent Manila/ £24 10s, April-June mipmente good fair grade £25, fair grade £23 10s, lair current Manila £24 10s. Fhe stock of New Zealand hemp held in London amounts •bo 6384 tons. The River Plate during March shipped 3796 cwts of butter to Liverpool and Southampton.
