THE "HARTNETT" MILKERS AT

DOOKIE COLLEGE.

The Government Dairy Expert, Melbourne, Victoria, Mr R. Crowe, has now completed his calculations of returns from cows, both hand and machine-milked, at Dookie College, Victoria, for the yeaT 1905-6. The report is a voluminous one, and has been forwarded to Mr E. G. Duffus, Secretary for the Council of Agricultural Education. Mr Crowe has also kindly supplied Messrs Holdenson and Nielson with a copy, which can be inspected at their office, 521 Flinders street, Melbourne, by those interested.

The gist of the report is that, in 1906, the cows milked by the "Hartoetf machines gave ffifl average of 12.6 per cent better milk yield, -with 11.91 per cent better butter-fat yield, than the cows returned under hand-milking. According to this, a cow giving a Tetuin of £8 for 12 months' milk under hand-milking, would, when milked by the "Haitnett" milkers, return £9 10s, en extra profit of £1 10s per cow } besides about 50 per cent saving in working expenses. This is solid proof of the great superiority of machine over hend-milking, and shows the necessity for all up-to-date farmers who wish to make a success of dairying to lay aside the old methods and drudgery of hand-milking, and go in for "the more up-to-date scientific methods of machinemalking. Mr Crowe concludes his report with the following: As far as the oompajison between hand and machlnemilking is concerned, the result has come out in favor of the machine. — Your obedient servant, (Signed) Robert Crowe. CONFIDENCE IN THE "L.K.G."

The confidence with which the public accept the milking machine to-day is in strong contrast to the scepticism of three years ago. Why is this? Because prior to the "L.K.G." every irr-chine proved an. absolute failure, and the public fully expected that a like fate would also overtake the "L.K.G.," but to-day the public know that it has been thoroughly tested by hundreds of practical farmers who have proved by 5 yeaTS of constant use that it is thoroughly successful. You don't take any risk if you buy the machine that has been thoroughly proved. MacEwan atid, Co., Ltd., Sole Agents, Egmont sfoeet, New Plymouth. 2
