RETAILERS' ASSOCIATION
(From Ouar Elthani Correspondent.) A meeting of delegates of the Taranaki PmoviiioM Retailers' Association was held at Eltham on Friday ; present— Messrs EkdaM and Hum-ell (Hawera), Leech, and Winfield (Inglewocd), Ward and Masters (Stratford), Adlam, McMillan and Empson (Kapbnga), Cairtman, Hill and Wilkinslofl (Eltham). Mr Carman was voted to the chair. The Secretary and Treasurer are to be appointed by the executive. Mr Leech proposed that Mr C. A. Wilkin&on be president for the forthcoming year. Mr Wilkinson preferred that Mr Carman should be appointed, and moved to that effect. Mr Carman declined the office, and seconded Mr Wilkinson's nomination, which was unanimously carried. Vice President — After a ballot Ma- Leech ■ was appointed. Secretary — Mr F. Hardy was elected to the position, and thanked for his offer of free services for the first twelve months. The President returned thanks for his election to the position of first President of the Association, and h]oped that the formation of the Taranaki Provincial RataihrV Association would uplift the status j&f traders throughout the province. There were many matters of interest to retailers that could be conserved by th© formation of the Association, one of the great questions being the position of wholesale houses doing retail businessi This was an important matter affecting practically every trader in the prtovinoe. Mr Leech expressed his thanks for being elected to the position of Vice-Preaident. He would d<> all in his power to further the interests of the Association, and particularly referred to the question of "bad marks" who made a business of moving from one town to another and getting credit from the different business people. This should certainly be put a stop to by means of the -Association. The Association should be of '.he greatest influence for good Votes of thanks to the Chairman, and t*> Mr Tristram (Town Clerk) for the use of the Borough Chambers were carried, and the meeting !*>•».
