RUGBY UNION.

[PRESS ASSOCIATION^ WELMNGTON, March 21. The Rugby Union is opposed to the proposal to abolish vice-presidents of the the New Zealand Union. It also passed resolutions 1 that the meeting of the New Zealand Union should be open to the press and that the selectors of the New Zealand teams should be chosen by delegates instead of by the Management Committee.

OBITUARY.

MARTON, March 21. Mx Samuel Gibbons, senr., died at Marton last evening, after a short illness. Deceased was for many yeans proprietor of the White Hart Hotel, and also took an acfovre part in local politics.
