WAIMATE ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Waimate Road Board \va6 held at Manaia on Tuesday; present — Messrs Bridge (chair), Hurley, Wells, Long, and McPhillips.

BRIDGE SUPERVISION. Correspondence was received from the Eltham County that that body wished* to take over the control of the bridges over the Mangawhero and Otakeho streams on the Opunake-Stratford Toad without employing the Waimate foreman to supervise the work.

It was cosisideied that the Eltham County should take over the liability incurred by the Board when, the appointment was made.

It was resolved, That the Clerk write to the Eltham County to the effect that the Board incurred a liability of £30 in engaging its Foreman to supervise the work, and the Board considers that the Council should take ovtetr this liability.

THE SUBSIDY QUESTION.

A letter from .the Hawera County Council was read' notifying that the Council intended to adhere to its original resolution ac regarded the subsidy to ask for £400.

After a general discussion it was decided that the Board be a committee to meet the Council on Friday next. '

EOBEMULN'S KEPORT. The Foreman (Mr'W.R. Tremain) repotted on -works in' general' within the district. ,'

As to bridges he reported that the Kaapokonui bridge (Sfceet road)* and tfo© Waioknra bridge (Notnmanby road) had been redecked and the timber was in hand for redccking' the bridges over the Taikatu and Taikain-iti. There -were three small bridges and one large culvert on the Skeet road and a small bridge on the Rama road which -would require tto be replaced either with large culverts or bridges. .He vroaM recommend concrete for culverts and for bridges. concrete abutments and steel girders. .

As to stone-breaking, men for this' class of work ooemed ttj be scarce; only two men Were at work.

Mr Harley movjed and Mr Long seconded, That the matteT of bridges be, leiEt to the Chairman, Mr McPhilJips, and the Foreman to deal with. Stone-breakers are to be advertised for. The report was adopted. APPOINTMENT.

Mr R. W. Foreman was appointed a member of the Assessment Court.

NEW COUNTY. . Tho question ,of renewing the agitation for a new county was. discussed at length in committee. The meeting then rose.
