HAWERA HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Hawera Hosipita.l and Charitable Aid Board was held on Monday; present— Messrs Sutton (Chairman). Tayler, Marx and Bridge. Messrs Boddie and Duirs were granted leave Krf absence.

INCURABLES.

Dr VaUntine (Inspector-General of Hospitals) wrote asking the Board to consider thie devising of some giood means for the accommodation and treatment of incurables.

A resolution was passed approving tho proposals of the Inspector.

CHARITABLE AID.

A woman in Opunake applied for charitable aid. The matter was held over pend ing information from the police at Opnnake.

House Tent was granted temporarily to a Hawera - woman.

ANNUAL REPORT.

This being the last meeting before the end of ihe financial year the Chairman piesented the annual report. The report stated that tihe institution wasi gaining in popularity in every way, and patients were pleased with the con- , sideration shown them. The committee recjbmmended .the extension of the east wing, for a nurses' room, and an addition, to th© operating, /room involving an expen-'! diture of £300. Salaries had gone up rome £150, and further disbursements in charitable aid might be expected. Hospi-, tal buildings would require painting. A. 7d rat© would meet all demands. The hospital had been conducted in an efficient and careful manner. Expenditure had. been well kept down, though care uqnas taken to see that no legitimate want was witLfceld. The total expenditure for the. y«\r ; up to February 28, Uo7i was £2963;. This included cost of upkeep of old men £229, maintenance- of patients in JJew Plymouth hospital £59, othier charitable aid £233, which added to the estimate to meet March accounts £200, brought the tot<*l. for thj year to £3163. The extraordinary, expenditure included laundry £253, ambulances ,£2lO. and woodshed £26. The income totalled £2959— 10ca1, bodies £2095^ patients £481, and donations £383. „Outstanding contributions and subsidies £299, woud bring the total tto £3257, nearly £100 more than the expenditure. \ Th© Chairman moved the adoption of tfye report. The New Plymouth Board forwarded a copy of a letter sent to the medical profession in New, Plymouth asking them not to recommend the admission of Hawera district patients, to the New Plymouth hospital except in urgent -cases. — It was resolved to thank the New Pdymlouth Board for their prompt attention. Mr T, A. Bridge (Secretary of the Manaia Presbyterian Church Committee).forwairded fruit, etc., used at the harvest thanksgiving on March 3 to the hospital. — It was resolved to heartily thank Mr Bridge and the committee. The Chairman and Mr Taylefc were appointed th© Visiting Committee for the ensuing month. The meoting then rose.
