A long" "^discussion took place to-night on the motion 'proposed by the Rev S. Lawxy, that subject to a satisfactory report being presented by the committee, the general Conference be recommended to make provision for giving to the anoual Conference of New Zealand an independent .constitution with full powers of legislation and control of its connexioinal funds under this name of the Methodist Church of New Zealand. The Rev H. ! Bull moved an amendment that the time was inopportune fox separation. After a prolonged discussion, the amendment was ejected by 73 to 74. The Conference Ly 78 to 69 then .adopted the motion that n view of the smallness of the majority it was not expedient to proceed further wi 1 . i the matter.
