An impression is current that the end of tta strike is in view. The Mataura workers recommence operations on Friday, the men having agreed to accept the terms originally offeixjd by the company. The Wallaoetown works start again at the end of the week.
AGREEMENTS AND DISPUTES
CHRISTCHURCH, March 6
At the sitting of the Arbitration Court to-day an agreement between the Christchurch Rattan and Wickerworkers' Asso elation and the Union was adopted by the Court. The principal terms of the agreement, were: Hours of work 44 per week, minimum wage Is 2d per hour, no piecework permitted, overtime to be paid at time and a quarter for the first three hours, and time and a half after.
An application for a fresh award in accordance with the terms of an agreement .arrived at between the clothing manufacturers of the colony and the Tailoresses' Union was eilso made to the Arbitration Court to-diiy. The award dates from the 3rd of April next, and will be in force for two years.
DtrNEDIN, March 6.
The Otag© Employers' Association, after oonsddt-xing the question of the slaughtermen's strike, agreed to forward the Association's opinions thereon to the New Zealand Employers' Federation, so that the question might be dealt with as from one body. The opinion was generally expressed that unless the awards of the Arbitration Court can be made -enforcable against the workers,' it was of no value to the em-ploy-ar.s.
AUCKLAND, March 7. The Trailes and Labor Council unanimously agreied to re-nominate 'Mr Slater as the. workers' representative in the Arbitration Coiirt.
