The Inter-state Commerce Commission, in tihe course of enquiry in New York into Taalway matters, elicited the fact that the unlimited powers of E. H. Harriman, Chairman of the Board of Directors in the Northern Securities Company, enabled him to purchase £20,000,000* vrortk ojt stock in other railways, and that he used the enormous funds as he liked.

The same Commission in its enquiries at Washington as to railway disasters obtained evidence which showed inefficient management and recklessness on the part <£ employees'.
