(From Our Own Correspondent. V Tihe Oaonui euchre parties ware brought to a dose on Friday night, when there was a very large attendance. The wmmittee are to be complimented on tihe successful manner in which they have carTied oob everything throughout the season. Owing to a large money surplus th© committee intend giving- a free plain and fancy d<ress ball to make a general windup. I wish them every success in their undertaking. The many friends of Mr Jacob Rotheiry will be glad to hear .that that gentleman is making good recovery after his operation in the New Plymouth hospital. Mt A.' Baker is having a large boasdinghouse erected on the Lower. Mabin troad. As Mr Baker is well known for 'bis capabilities in providing for the piublic,; visitors will find every comfort when this establishment is completed. 'The Ake Ake Football Club are to h*ld a grand social in the local hall to celebrate their winning the Dcs Forges cup for ifchis season. Judging by the' way that the committee are working, , this social will be something out of the-ordi-nary. . Most of the factories and creameries on this part of the coast are again in full 'Swing,, and I have been informed that this year is going to be a record one for milk and butter. The ladies of Rahotu gave a. return to the bachelors in the shape oi a grand plain and fancy direse ball on Wednesday night. As was anticipated this ball excelled all other events of the year, and the ladies are to be complimented on the £Q£refis£ul manner in which everything was carried out. About "80 ooupks- dadoed, the "light fantastic" till about 4 &.m. to delightful muloc, supplied by Mr KnowW ; band. The hall was tastefully decorated with ferns, clusters of clematis and fairy lanterns, and these, with the numerous fancy oostume6, made a very pretty pic tare. Mr Ban-Brown, assisted by Mi Morrow, carried out the duties of masted oi ceremonies. At 12 o'clock a dainty supper was handed round, whioh had ample justice done; another supper wa* on the boards at 2.30 a.m. Miss Honon the energetic secretary, deserves great praise for her indefatigable efforts t< make the ball the great success that id yn*. The whole proceedings -were brought to a close with three heart?] cheers by the bachelors for the ladies.
