METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.

ANNIVERSARY MEETING.

The anniversary meeting in connection with the Methodist Sunday school was twJd in tho Church on Monday evening and was a most successful function. The choir seats were crowded with children, and it certainly appeared to be a most ibappy time for them. The proceedings throughout were bright, the necessary speeches were not too long and were well endowed with anecdotes amusing both to j the children and the adults who attended. The Superintendent of the school^ Mr E. Dixon, waa Chairman, and in the preacher's rostrum there were also the Rev. T. G. Brooke, President of the Conference, Rev. Gibson and. Mr Lowry (Presbyterian). The report, the twenty-second presented, j was most comprehensive, and the Score- ' tary, Mr Geo. Kilvington, dwelt on every phase of the school's work. The attendance had not been as good as in previous . years, but forty-three names had been re- , moved from the register owing to the children leaving the district. The kindly co-operation of the parents was asked for an seeing that, the ch'ldren attended ! classes regularly of a Sunday. The want of a suitable room for the infants was j lamented, and the hope was expressed that ' within :he year Mr Sussex would be pro- . vided with, a room so that many exercises interesting and profitable to the children could be carried out. Reference was also made to the Bible classes, to the Christian Endeavor Society, and to the Catechism and Scripture Knowledge examinations. Concerning the latter regret was expressed that out of an average attendance of 98 only 30 children came forward, and of those only six were boys. One boy obtained ?00 per cent, of marks, while several others gained 99 per cent. It was clearly demonstrated that children in homes where the parents supervised the learning of lessons cam© out with the highest' percentages, and a strong appeal was made to the parents to show that kindly interest and co-operation which was necessanry in order that tho children might bentfit to the full from the advantages ■which were to be obtained from the The balance-sheet was submitted by the Treasurer Mr W. Hut-rihens, and showed 'a satisfactory credit balance. It was explained that there were several items of extiaordinary expense, and it was anticipated that a better position would be reported at the next anniversary.
