THE MAORI "PROPHET."
[SBXSS ABBOOIAIION.]
GISBORNE, July 9.
Rua, the so-called prophet, is still camped in this district, and states he intends to remain until he gets a call from a higher power to move on. He states it has cost him over £300 in provisions since he set out, and £70 since he has been in this district. He declares that instead of his living on other natives, local followers have been, living in the camp at his expense. He has failed' to obtain admission to the church, the doors of which he proclaimed would be opened to him. On Saturday he had a wordy warfare with the rival prophet Werea, who made a stiT in the Wangianui district some months ago.
