KAPONGA.

(Farom Our Own Correspondent.)

Mr J. C. Cooper at the meeting of farmers on Thursday night, in advocating thb necessity for dairy schools in the country districta.said : "Agriculture is the great source of wealth. No nation ever became great vrhose farmers were not great. To make our farmers great and thus increase the wealth' of the country (and which wealth must circulate amongst the workers) you must give him trained men to create this wealth. There is not a sufficiency in the country at present and it will pay the country to import selected mon for this purpose. They will not crowd the streets of towns, but live in the country, and by and by either they themselves or their sons will becom© successful farmers "

The Association boys are getting into practice for next Thursday's match, Eltham v. Kaponga. The soccer game is making good headway in Kaponga, and I think some of the local boys will be getting a place on the southern eleven. Of the first season's players I think .B. Law will bo the first to take the selector's eye.

The Waimate "B juniors 1 played a match against all-comers at the park on Satur day. The selectors of tho junior -reps, could travel a long way before finding better forwards than Winters, Baird and Agent. The backs are only fair, perhaps Fearon and Sheerin are the pick.

Tho following team (Association) will meet Eltham at Eltham on Thursday next:— Camm, Law, Dr Maclagan, Walker, Kelly, Eocleston, Lewis, Cleland, Preece, Betts, Lister; emergencies. North - cott, Putt.
