INQUEST.

GORE, April 23.

The body of Joseph Bourgeois, who was drowned ou the Waikak.a dredge on Saturday, was recovered on Sundjay. At the inquest, the evidence showed that deceased and bis mate were hauling themselves ashore in a punt, by tfee teowline of the dredge. The bow of the punt dipped under and shipped some water. The men lost their heads and jumped overboard. A verdict of accidentally gowned, no blame attachable to anyone, "was returned.

DROWNED IN A BATH.

WELLINGTON, April 23. Thisi morning on board the steamer. Lister H. Bachelor, a second saloon, passenger, was found drpwfled in a bath.. He was recently invalided* from the Army, and wae coming to New Zealand to settle oa the land.

WOUNDS PROVE FATAL.
