BOROUGH FINANCE.
UNSATISFACTORY YEAR'S
WORKING. ; At the Borough Council on Wednesday , evening the Mayor (Mr Robbins) pointed out that the balance-sheet was on the table, in manuscript form. He said : In spite of everything that has been dome in (regard to endeavoring to get the thing within reasonable bounds, our expenditure this year was such that we have not been able, to acomplish what we hoped, and instead of being a reduction in, the matter of the overdraft we stand in a worse position than at the beginning of the year. lam not prepared to go into the balance-sheeti as I have not had th© opportunity. I think it would be well if the Council had a special meeting to consider the finances as oisclosed by the balance-sheet. Meanwhile Councillors can study the figures for themselves. Cr Pacey said it would be a good idea, to 'have a special meeting. He thought finance was a thing upon which they should [ concentrate all their abilities. They i should thresh the matter out amd -try and see some way out of the maze. They adl went into the Council promising to reduce the overdraft. i After some further discussion the date j upon which the meeting will be called was i left in the hands of the Town Clerk.
