VACCINATION. ♦ CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS. MAGISTRATE REFUSES TO MAKE ORDERS. [PBEBB ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, April 11. At the Police Court, the Registrar of Births summoned a number of parents to show cause why their children should not be vaccinated. Mr George George, Director of Technical Education, one of the defendants, said he conscientiously believed vaccination would injure his chikTs health, and felt so strongly on the subject that he would suffer the extreme penalty ,of the, law ratiher than allow his children to be vaccinated. Mr Kettle said he would decline to make an order. Mr Mays, 'solicitor, asked if the Magistrate proposed to extend the time, when a conscientious objection should apply, from four months to fourteen years. The Magistrate said wihatever wasi the effect of his decision, he would not take the responsibility of ordering his child to be vaccinated. When a parent swore he honestly believed vaccination would be injurious to his child's health, he would not ■ order him to consent. He would, if requested, state a case for the Supreme 'Court.' I ' Mr Mays, for the Health Department, said the Department would not consent to extend the period of exemption. Eight cases were similarly dealt with, ( the Magistrate refusing to make orders.
