[PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

(Received April 12, 8.28 a.m.)

LONDON, April 11.

Australia was now enjoying renewed prosperity but it would be some years before the old resolute optimism was revived. He urged the striking richness of Australia's resources and hoped that in the near future effective protection within the Commonwealth for the manufacturing industry would help to attract population.

Sir J. Forrest urged that the colonies should think of Imperial matters. In <Mfence they all ought to take part but were entitled to representation. If they wished to share control they must expect to pay a larger proportion.
