FIRES.
DUNEDIN, January 22. The shop of Wardell Bros., grocers, Goorge street, was the scene of a fire today.
It started unaccountably in a back room. Before it was put out, stock to the value of between £400 and £500 was damaged, and the building injured to the extent of £40. Insurances: Royal Office on building £750; stock £2750; fittings, £500; Sun Office, stock £1000; total, £5000
ALLEGED CATTLE MAIMING.
HOKITIKA, January 22. Robert Ferguson, a well-known miner, was committed for trial on a charge of maiming three calves at Woolstoek on the 11th inst.
