Yestprday morning James William Burnell, aged 26, unmarried, was found dead, hanging from a beam in the Heathcote Valley Schoolroom. At the inquest today the evidence Bhowed that deceased had had bad health recently, and was depressed by the fact that he was unable to work. The jyty returned a verdict of hanging during temporary insanity. FISHING BOAT FATAJJTY. TIMARU, December 16. This afternoon * squall struck a couple of fishing boats in the roadstead, one a good-sized sailing boat and the other a smajl open boat with a mast. The larger boat, occupied by C. Gruhn and Harris, fishermen, was driven ashore, and struck the Patiti reef a few hundred yards from the beach. Gruhn sprang overboard, but Harris sat fast and cut away Vmo mast. The boat drifted and Gruha struggled for a long time in the water. Efforts were ; mads from the store to save him, but these failed, and- he sank. After some - time * boat from the harbor, about a mile away came op, and rescued Harris, uninjured from the boat, but was ttttabte to find Gruhn's, body.
