| SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Hawera Cbamj ber of Commerce was held in the Council onamber on Fridayaf ternoon. . The President (Mr A. J. Whittaker) was in the ' chair, and Messrs Wrigley, Hardley, Bra nette, Bobbins, Dixon, Tait, Wilson, [ Bates, and Foy (secretary) were also present . ; MOUNT EGMONT RAILWAY. ' The Under-Becretary of the Public \ Works Department wrote saying that the ■ Chamber's letter urging the early conI struction of the Mount Egmont railway . would receive the careful consideration of ! the Government. f BALL ROAD STATION. Mr J. Morrison specifically stated the ! requirements at the Ball Road siding, \ namely: — (1) A man should be stationed I there, as the traffic is increasing daily; I (2) the erection of a small yard for load- [ ing stock; (3) the construction of a bank for loading heavy goods. MOUNTAIN COACH SERVICE. The committee reported having arranged \ details with Reid and Sales as to the • coach service, and the report was adopted. \ A good deal of discussion took plat* ' as to the days upon which the coach s will run, and it was finally decided to , leave on Saturdays and return on Mont days during one month, and leave on > Tuesdays and return on Thursdays the > following month. , PATENT MEDICINES. > Mr .Bobbins moved: "That in the ■ opinion of the Chamber the regulations r gazetted in respect to patent medicines I will destroy legitimate trade, inflict in- ■ justice on patentees, cripple enterprise, ■ and inconvenience a large section of the i public; therefore the Government be i asked to reconsider the matter." : Mr Brunette seconded the resolution, i which was carried, Mr Wilson protesting , against the Chamber interfering in the r matter. After the transaction of other detail business the meeting rose.
