MIDLANDS V. KAPOXGA.

This match was played at llawra, and resulted in a very good win by Kaponga. Hawera battpd first, and made a bad stint. Pratt succumbed to Cole first ball, and O'Callaghan followed suit, and no one made any stand till Biltcliffe came in. He put up 20 not out by very good play. Wilson made 5, Richdale 4, and Coleman 7. There were 18 extras, and the innings closed for 61. W. Cole got 7 wickets for 15 runs, and Trowers 2 for 15. Kaponga replied with 60, W. Cole making 23. Mathieson 6, Baigent 9 not out. Toy 11, Gapper 4. Coleman got 4 wickets for 15, O'Callaghan 2 for 14, Pratt 2 for 27. In their second innings Midland made 51 — Hodgson 7, Biltcliffe 13, Pratt 11, Gridley 5, being the principal scorers. Cole and Trowers were too much for the local batsmen. Wanting 53 to win in something less than an hour. Cole and Mathieson got the lot withput losing a wicket, a remarkably good piece of b;ittirj£. Colp was not gut wit)i 28, Mathieson not out 21,' and there were four extras.
