DEATH OF TWO INFANTS.

[PBBSS ASSOCIATION.]

DUNEDIN, November 8. At the inquest respecting the recent death pf two infants of Susannah Wainwright, a single woman, the woman herself gave evidence that she left v.c place carrying a baby on each arm. Rain came on at night, and she fell asleep. When she awoke the children were dead, and she put the bodies in a carpet bag which she was carrying. Medical evidence was given that the infants had been prematurely born. Dr Stenhouse thought the woman had done all she could for the children. The jury found death waa caused by prematurity of birth, accelerated by exposure and cold, the mother being in such physical and mental condition at the time that she was not responsible for her actions.

The woman was afterwards arrested on a charge of attempted concealment of birth, and remanded.
