[press association^ LONDON, September 1. Advices from Alukden state that the Japanese have fortified positions north and west of the Yentai mines. Field-Marshal Oyama's forces facing the Russians number 144.000 bayonets, 6380 cavalry and '638 field guns. The Japanese were represented as being anxious to act on the defensive.
