OTAKEHO RACES.

The races held on Mr Speight's property on the Rama road by the Otakeho Race Club on Wednesday attracted considerable attention, the meeting being well patronised. An excellent course had been obtained, a mile in length, and good racing was the order of the day. The liandioipper carried out his duties particularly well, and, considering that a good many of the horses were practically unknown, he is to be complimented on the good finishes which resulted. In several cases the winners just got home by a head. The officials were all at their posts, and carried out their duties most satisfactorily. The management was first-class, all the events being 'got off in quick succession. A refreshment booth was run by Mr A. Beattie, licensee of the Otakeho Hotel. The following were the results :— Maiden, of 6 soys, one mile.— Mr Tamu's Brown Betty, 9.7, 1 ; Mr N. Lea's Clarion, 9.7, 2. Flower Girl was favorite, but took the wrong course, and landed in the middle of the field. The other two raced neck and neck for a long way, but the winner gradually showed herself, and won without the whip. Flying Handicap, of 10 soys, six furlongs.~Mr R. Wood's Lady Arawa, 10.0, il; Mr T. Kelland's Counsel, 8.5, 2. The winner was ahead all the way, and won rather easily. Also started: Lurline, Lady Gun. Tenawa. Bush Girl was scratched. Lurline was favorite. Pony Handicap, of 5 soys, one mile.— Mr Tamil's Brown lietty, 1; Mr T. Quinn's Timbucktoo, 2. The winner showed up in the straight, and won a hard rare under the whip. Violet, Wakipi, Countess, Flower Girl, and Ginger also started. Otakeho Handicap, of 14 soys, one mile. —Mr T. O'Connor's Toiler, 9.12, 1; Mr T. Kelland's Counsel, 8.0, 2. Lurline was the only other starter. All were well together,* the winner being a few lengths in advance.

Auroa Stakes, of 6 soys, four furlongs.—Mr Wood's Lady Arawa. 10.0, 1; Mr J. Crowley's Lady Gun, 9.0. 2. Lurline and . Lady Gun were also in the race, and all were bunched at the end, producing a fine finish. A head separated the first and second horses.

District Welter, of 9 soys, six furlongs. —Mr P. Caufield's Tenawa. 8.0, 1; Mr R. McLeod's Ping Pong, 10.0, 2. Also started: Taikatu, Flower Girl, Timbucktoo, Brown Betty. Tenawa got a good start, and won all the way. A Handicap Trot of one mile was arranged on the ground. The entries were Rahotu scr., Flower Girl. Dick, Jack lOsecs. Lady Ping Pong 20secs. Mr Jos. McCarty on Dick won by about half a mile; ]?irip Pong was second. Forced Handicap, of 5 soys, seven furlongs.—Mr T. Kelland's Counsel, 8.0, 1; Mr T. Q'Connor's Toiler, 10.2, 2.
