NEWCASTLE COLLIERY DISPUTE.

[PBEP3 ASSOCIATION.] • (Received Soptember 24, 1.14 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 23. The application of the Northern Colliery miners to preserve working conditions were decided in their favor at the Arbitration Court. This disposes of the notice given by the colliery proprietors for a reduction in the hewing rate.

FISH POISONING.

(Received September 24, 10.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 24. While the steamer Ysabel was at Marshall Group, some fish were caught and a number of the crew were affected by fish poisoning. Thomas, the chief offi- , cer, and Murray, second officer, and the'steward died. The rest are recovering.

(Received September 24, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 24. Mr Carruthers, the Premier, informed a deputation that the Government were fitmly lesolved to amalgamate the two Savings Banks at present existing under tho control of the Government, and lend money at a lower rate of interest than the Government banks, so that those engaged in tho producing would get money direct at a lower rftto, enabling them to cultivate more land. There would bo no inducement to wild speculation, and the security would have to bo as good as that demanded by any vroll-managed financial institution.
