WAIRARAPA V. MANAWATU.

PALMERSTON N., August 3. A fast and interesting match on a wet ground between Wairarapa and Manawatu ended in a win for the latter by five . points. The teams wterq very evenly matched, but Wairarapa had a- little' bib f the best of the game all through. About | a minute to tinro in Che second spell smart passing among the local backs enabled Penman to score, and a goal resulted. McMinn was pitted against War- ' ncr on the wing, but' neither wereibril- ' liant at any part of the ganw. Whisker : played the best forward game on the ground, Udy doing yeoman service in the pack for Wairarapa, and Logan, the Wairarapa half, played a very fine game.
