AUCKLAND TRAMWAY ACCIDENT.
* THE INQUEST. (Per Press Association.)' AUCKLAND, January 5. The inquest concerning the fatal tram accident of Christmas Eve was continued i to-day. A moterman named Moves gave evidence that on December 22 he reported that the track brake on car 39 (the double-deck car which ran off on Christmas Eve) would not apply, and again on December 23 he gave the same report. -u.e mentioned, the matter to the motor inspector one day, and wrote it on his waybill on both days. He got the conductor to screw down the brake and got below tha car to look at it. He found that it just touched the rail, but there was not pressure. The Tramways Company called the motor inspector, who said Moyes toid him the track brake was "a bit crook, but he could manage with it all right." I'he matter being put that way the motjr inspector did not pay much attention to >ne report. The motor man who ran the car on the norning of the accident was also called, tnd said he found the track brake a littb itiff but quite effective. He ran the car ix trips, and used the track brake eaii 1 rip. : Mr Carey, chief electrical engineer to he Tramways Company, gave expert evitenet. The inquiry will conclude to-morrow.
