CHESS TOURNEY.
WELLINGTON, January 6. At the chess congress this morning J. Mason won his game with Grierson at the 48th move; and W. £. Mason defeated Edwards after a stubborn contest. This leaves the two Masons still level wi»a 114 wins each. The. only other game finished this morning was Mackay defeated Friberg. Sandford, 8£ wins, ,4£ losses, occupies third place, but. Barnes, ,8 wins, 4 losses, 1 unfinished, is pretty certain to tie with Ir'm at tire end of the present round.
