MEETING OF KORMANBY BRANCH.

The adjourned annual meeting was held in the Beading-room on Saturday last, a fair number being present.

The balance-sheet was read and adopted.

Mr Baker (Chairman) gave an address on the work necessary for the benefit of the Union, especially the insurance question, etc., and nmongst other things he said he would like some practical man among them to give an address upon the best mode of planting or sowing different kinds of grain to enanle the best results to be got. He thought this would make the meetings popular. Mr McGuire aleo addressed the meeting. He said the Farmers' Union was now a great power, and if they liked to use it they could force the Government of the day to pass such Acts as would benefit themselves. Bills put on the Order Paper got no further, and private members had no chance of getting a bill passed. Farmers were the backbone of the country, yet they were scarcely represented, and often carried away by empty promises at election times. Mr Gane sail he endorsed all Sir McGuire had aaid.

Mr Baker was re-elected chairman, Mr Barrow vice chairman, and Mr J. White treasurer and secretary. The following were elect-d on the committee : Messrs Baker, Barrow, Bissett, Inkster, C. Hunger, Goodland, H. Lysaght, J. Forbes, Gane, Cowern, Richardson, E -bson, J, Biddle, F. Riddle, B. White, C. Stewart, Pitcher. Mr B. Cowern was elected auditor.

Proposed by Mr Forbes, seconded by Mr Gane, that the President attend the New Plymouth Conference. — Carried.

The yearly subscription was fixed at ss. The secretary to be allowed Is per member as an honorarium.- Carried,

A, vote of thanks to the Chairman nnd Secretary ended the meeting; after which the meeting resolved itself into an ordinary general meeting,

Proposed by Mr Gano, seconded by Mr Cowern, that native land be uiider the some conditions as private land ; also Fencing Act and clearing noxious weeds, and taxation for local hodies.

The President was authorised to support all the no'ices on the Order Paper, with exceptions of those marked out.— Carried.

The meeting adjourned to Saturday, 13th, to enable members to consider the new Stook Bill forwarded by the Minister of Agriculture.
