A rather novel account was put in for payment at the last meeting of the Waimate Boad Board a% Manaia. Ii read:— "To. hire of., the racehorse ' Boomerang * and dray, one day, carting soil, Skoet road, . 55." About a mocth before the Maoaia races, Boomerang was being trained in the shafts of a tip-dray. Boomerang has had an eventful career, On one occasion he did du,ty in a tip-.dray dragging the timber off a piece of ground being oleared for ploughing. He had to back to the edge of a hill in order to have the load tipped down the bank, and, not being able, to hold the load on one occasion, was rolled down into a creek at the bottom, from whence he had to be dragged by a team of draught-horses.
