A fire at Misses Gaecoigne's, Hardy street East, last night destroyed the rear portion of the building, together with the contents,- including the property of the boarder*. The outbreak originated by an explosion of a small kerosene heater. The building was old, ard soon burnt ou?j/especially as the water supply wai inadequate ; but the main front building was saved. One boarder lost J822 in a note book. Among the losers are Messrs Coney, Campbell, Deshler, Stowo (Blenheim BaDk of New Zealand)^ in whose room the' fire originated; Patterson, Strauohan, Dalla'ton ; (Wellington). Borne hoarders' were insured on their clothing- and effects, and others uninsured.
