DUNEDIN, June 9. At tbe Old Age Pensions Court to-day a question was raised on an application for renewal of a pension as to whether a life iottrtet in property constituted ownership. Mr Carew, 8.M., dcoided that the new regulation upon which the reg : strar propostd to act was ttltaa vires, and oon* trary to the provisions of the Act itself.

A legal point was suggested by the S.fif . at the Licencing. Committee meeting to-day, when Mr Bennett mentioned the matter of extension of closing boor of tbe Commercial .Hotel, Manaia. His Worship eeid it might be conteudgd that . extension to eleven o'clock haying been endorsed on the Jioense on a previous oooasion, and the present application being simply fox a, renewal, there was no need for a fresh application for extension. Counsel did not Eeem to coincide in tbe opinion. The question of extension was to be discussed this afternoon, when 1 Mr Halliwell, for petitioners, was to appear in opposition.
