EDUCATION BOARDS' CONFERENCE.
(per press association.!
Wellington, August 19. The Education Boards' Conference opened this morning.
It was resolved that, in addition to the ordinary capitation and other grants, adequate provision should be made for the coßt of administration by Boards. During the discussion, Mr Hogg, M.H.R., advised the Conference to exercise caution in its requests. Tbe sixteen motions on the Order Paper pertaining to matters affecting Boards all contained an outcry for more money. The Conference should be careful leßt it raised such a state of public feeling as would militate against tbe educational system.
A motion by the Nelson representative to provide that where the attendance is injuriously affected by important local conditions during any quarter, payment of teachers' salaries and capitation to Boards should be estimated on tbe average of the other three quarters, was negatived.
