The Wellington Post fottball writer, referring to the proposed North and South Island match, Bays :— lt will he interesting at this stage to state that only on one occasion has 4here been a North and South Island match, and this took place at the Athletic Park, Wellington, on June 26 tb, 1897, when the Northerners beat the Southerners by 16 points to 3. Mr J. P. Firth was the referee, and the names of the players who did battle on that occasion might be chronicled to show the changes which have since eventuated. The names of very few present day players are included in the list, but there are Borne names whose past doughty deeds in the football arena will furnish readers with an opportunity of recalling stirring incidents in the various performances of many of the old "has beens." The North Island was represented by Laws, Allen, Roberts, Smith, Bayly (captain), Humphries, Mills, M'Konzie, Blair, Hancock, Pauling, Calnan, Wilson, Hardcastle, nnd Murray.
