Tarrant (Mr Bennett) chnrged' Robert Avery with having released certain horses seized by the ranger to be impounded, such rescue being contrary to the statute (Impounding Act, 1884). Same v. George Avery : Charged under the Public Works Act with permitting certain horses to roam on the public roads, such being contrary to statute. Both cases adjourned to 28th August. The case against G. Avery was laid under the Public Works Act, 1894, which provides that an owner shall be liable to a fine of £2 per head for each head of cattle he allows to roam on the publio highway, such fino to be over and above the usual impounding and driving fees.
