MDLLE. ANTONIA DOLORES.

This evening, the Hawera public will have an opportunity of making acquaintance with one of the greatest singers of the day, and that they will take full advantage of it we feel sure. Speaking of one of the recitals in New Plymouth, the Herald says: — The thrilling tenderness of tone, the sweet tantalising archness, the dramatic passion, the wonderful technique of this singer, who sings with "a voice not of men, but of birds," completely held the audience in thrall. Mdlle. Dolores, first gave the invocation "Divinites dv Styx," making it a marvel of dramatic expression and execution. Her next appearance was to sing three bracketed numbers: "O, Mistress Mine" was rendered with a delightful appreciation of its quaint beauty; Purcell's "I Attempt from Love Sickness to Fly " was given with all a lover's sighing sadness, and a rapid change of treatment was needed for the sparkling " Nymphs and Shepherds." The storm of applause which followed these numbers was only quieted by the siDger's return to sing "Cherry Bipe." Perhaps her greatest triumph, however, was the taratelle of Bizet, and the house positively rose at the artist, insisting on an extra number. Mr Clarence Newell is^ a pianist of all too rare ability, and he cannot but receive warm appreciation from those who understand good piano playing. Having a firm, decided touch, he yet infuses a sympathy and sweetness of tone into his playing which marks him an artist.
