Wbstpobt, February 25.
The Arbitration Court closed its sittings at Westport to-day. In Holmes v- the Weslport Coal Company (a special case stated for the opinion of the Court as to whether the average rate of wages upon which compensation in case of accident is based is calculated on the actual earning of the workmen during the preceding 12 months.or on the time the workmen were actually on the works during that period), His Honor said that as the question was a very important one, and affected not only this district, but the whole of New Zealand, he would look into English decisions on the Accident Compensation Ace, and deliver a written judgment.
