The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report as follows on their Palmerston North sale : — We held one of the largest and most successful sales that we have yet had the pleasure of holding in Palmerston North. We yarded over 700 head of cattle, consisting principally of grown steer?, and about 4000 sheep, the bulk of them being half-bred nnd three-quarter-bred LincolnMerino wethers. There was a large attendance of the public, and bidding, although somewhat dull at first, was fairly brisk, and a fair proportion of both sheep and cattle were quitted under the hammer. With the exception, however, of one pen of 2£ year steers, we were able to quit the balance by private treaty at prioes slightly in favor of the purchaser. Two and 3 year steers were a little easier, and there was a stronger demand for yearling and eighteen months cattle, there being many enquiries for this class. The line of 2000 three-quarter bred wethers were sold to a Northern buyer at 8s 2d and the 1000 6 tooth half bred wethers made 9s 6d. We quote: Sheep : Two-tooth wethers, 7s 6d to 8s 3d ; f.m. ewes, 7s 3d ; 6-tooth wethers, 9s 6d ; cull ewes, 5s 2d ; lambs, 3s 6d to 4s lOd ; Shropshire rams, 2£gs to 4gs ; Southdown rams, 4gs ; Hampshire rams, 2£gs to 3£gs ; Lincoln rams, ljgs.
